Dear ISGS Member,
The International Sol-Gel Society (ISGS) invites nominations for the upcoming election of members to the ISGS Board of Directors (BoD).
Since its establishment in 2003, the ISGS has served as an international, interdisciplinary, non-profit organization dedicated to advancing sol-gel science and technology and supporting the global sol-gel community. The Society is led by a Board of Directors that works on behalf of its members to promote scientific exchange, equity, support researchers at all career stages, and develop initiatives that strengthen our community.
As part of the upcoming Board renewal, ISGS members will elect:
- Three (3) members of the BoD, each serving a six-year term.
- Two (2) Early-Career-Researcher members of the BoD, each serving a two-year term. These members will also serve as leaders of the ECR network of the ISGS, with responsibility for leading the development and implementation of ECR Network initiatives for the next two year.
All elected individuals serve as full voting members of the BoD and share the same rights, responsibilities, and duties.
The ISGS is committed to equity and inclusivity, and to ensuring that the diversity of our international community is reflected in the composition of the Board. We therefore strongly encourage applications from members of all backgrounds, career stages, genders, countries, and sectors, including academia, industry, government laboratories, research institutes, and other professional organizations active in sol-gel science and technology.
Eligibility and Application Process
- Candidates must be ISGS members in good standing, who have maintained paid membership for at least the previous four (4) years.
- Early-Career-Researcher candidates must be ISGS members in good standing, who have maintained paid membership for at least the previous two (2) years, and must have been awarded their PhD within the ten (10) years preceding the application deadline.
- Current members of the BoD completing a six-year term are not eligible for re-election.
- Early-Career-Researcher members of the BoD completing their two-year term may subsequently stand for election as regular Directors in future election cycles.
Applications will open on Monday, 22 June 2026 and close on Friday, 17 July 2026.
To apply:
- Complete the nomination form available here: member of the BoD or and Early-Career-Researcher members of the BoD.
- Indicate whether you are applying for a member of the BoD position or an Early-Career-Researcher member of the BoD position.
- Include a brief biography and a short statement describing how you would contribute to the work of the ISGS Board.
Completed applications should be submitted to the ISGS Secretariat before the application deadline.
Candidate profiles will be posted on a members-only section of the ISGS website prior to the election.
Election Process
Voting will be conducted electronically via eBallot on 2-3 September 2026. All ISGS members will participate in a single election to fill all vacant BoD positions.
Following verification and certification of the results, the successful candidates will be formally announced during the ISGS Session at the 23rd International Sol-Gel Conference in Lisbon, Portugal, on 4 September 2026.
ISGS Membership Reminder
Members who registered for the 2024 International Sol-Gel Conference in Berlin remain active ISGS members until the 2026 International Sol-Gel Conference in Lisbon. Their membership expires on the day before the new conference starts.
Members who do not plan to attend the Lisbon Conference but wish to remain eligible to vote in the upcoming Board of Directors election must renew their membership through the ISGS website before the voting period begins.
Registration for the 2026 International Sol-Gel Conference in Lisbon automatically renews ISGS membership for an additional two-year period (no action needed).
In all cases, please ensure that you can access your account on the ISGS website before the voting period begins by verifying your registered email address and password. If necessary, use the “Forgot Password” option to reset your password.
