IBM Research GmbH – Zurich Research Laboratory
Materials Research Scientist
A position for a postdoctoral researcher is available immediately in the advanced thermal packaging project at the IBM Zurich Research Laboratory (http://www.zurich.ibm.com/st) for research and development of novel materials for thermal packaging and adsorption cooling. This effort will further strengthen IBM’s position as global leader in innovative thermal management solutions and support initiatives in the energy sector within the Smarter Energy framework (http://www.ibm.com/smarterplanet/).
The successful candidate will have a strong interdisciplinary background in the chemistry and physics of materials including synthesis and characterization. Experience in sol-gel or polymer chemistry and templated materials is required along with a good understanding of adsorption processes as well as heat and mass transport in porous materials. Familiarity with nanotechnology and -patterning, self-assembly and electronic packaging concepts is beneficial. The materials development effort will support research in the field of water sorbents for adsorption cooling and self-assembly strategies for thermal contact enhancement. The planned tasks span a wide range from applied materials research to the development of demonstrators. We are seeking highly motivated individuals who are interested to join our multi-disciplinary research team to advance thermal management techniques for sustainable energy technologies and energyefficient datacenters.
