The Ulrich Award 2023

Since 1991, the Donald R. Ulrich Award has been granted to outstanding young researchers during the biennial International Sol-Gel conferences, in recognition of distinguished achievements in the field of sol-gel science and technology. The ISGS is now seeking nominations for the 2023 Ulrich Award.

These awards celebrate the life of Dr Don Ulrich, who was a senior Program Manager and Deputy Director of the Chemical and Atmospheric Sciences Directorate in the Air Force Office of Scientific Re-search from 1975 until 1990. He was a strong advocate for international scientific collaboration and organised programs that supported significant research initiatives in chemically synthesized materials, including ceramics, sol–gel processing, non-linear optical and ordered polymers, molecular composites, poly-mer alloys and multifunctional materials. These initiatives have had a profound impact that shaped the development of our field and our community of practitioners. Don passed away on 14 November 1990 at 54 years of age.

To be eligible for nomination, candidates must be active in sol-gel research, with less than 10 years having elapsed since the time of their PhD thesis defence. The deadline for applications is January 15th 2024, with the awardees to be announced in May 2024.
