Announcing the ISGS eSeminar Series

In early-2021, the ISGS will launch an eSeminar series, to build closer and more regular contacts within our solgel community between the biennial International Sol-Gel Conferences. The eSeminars will be held via ZOOM and shall be open to all ISGS members, with a particular focus on our PhD students and emerging scientists. The initiative will include:

• A monthly eSeminar delivered by a senior member of the ISGS community on a topic of their choice. Although the eSeminars will be open to any ISGS member who wished to be a part of the audience, priority will be given to our PhD students and emerging scientists, to provide opportunities for the future leaders of our community to interact with our current senior practitioners. The presentations will be either scientific or on specialty topics such as career development, “how to get your work published”, etc.

• A monthly eSeminar for our PhD students to deliver a short presentation on their research to an audience of their peers and more senior colleagues. This will provide students with an opportunity to deliver seminars in a conference-like forum and to obtain feedback on their research. It is envisaged that the presentations would each be 20 minutes in length, with an additional 10 minutes for questions. Up to three presentations would be included in each monthly session. Where feasible, priority will be given to students who are preparing for their thesis Defence, and who wish to use this forum to practice their presentation in front of an audience and receive feedback prior to their formal Defence.

The two eSeminar series will alternate to ensure that an ISGS eSeminar is delivered each fortnight, with Professor John Bartlett (ISGS Newsletter Editor) acting as convenor.

More details about the eSeminar series will be provided in early-2021. If you wish to nominate speakers, or participate as a speaker yourself, please email the eSeminar convenor with a tentative title for your presentation.
