Over the next few issues of the ISGS Newsletter, we will present brief bios of the newest members of the ISGS Board, who were recently elected to guide the initiatives of the ISGS for the next six years. Our first installment focuses on Alessandro Martucci, who received his Ph. D. in Materials Science Engineering at Bologna University in 1997. Since 1999, he has held a faculty position at Padova University and from 2019 is a Full Professor in Materials Science Engineering at the Department of Industrial Engineering. His main research activity is devoted to glass, ceramic and nanostructured films obtained by wet chemistry for photonic, optical and gas sensing applications. He has published more than 260 international publications (H-index 44 – Scopus) and 1 international patent. In addition to delivering over 50 invited lectures at various international conferences and Universities, he has held visiting appointments at the University of Melbourne and the University of New South Wales (Australia) and the National Research Council of Canada in Ottawa.
