Sol-gel for textile applications
The interest for the application of sol-gel methods to the functionalization of textiles is growing, as demonstrated by the 22nd International Congress organized by the IFATCC (International Federation of Associations of Textile Chemists and Colorists) at Stresa (Italy) on May 5th-7th, 2010.
On Thursday, during one of the two morning sessions devoted to “Standard and technologies. How to increase the product and process quality and protect environment and health”, four of the seven presentations are on sol-gel applications to textiles. The topics range from antistatic and repellent treatments, to improving abrasion resistance, to multifunctional hybrid organic-inorganic multifunctional finishing, to ecological aspects.
