Following the success of the inaugural ISGS PhD Student eMarathon in March 2024, the ISGS will launch a new initiative known as the Early-Career Researcher (ECR) eMarathon in December 2024. The ECR eMarathon will involve a series of up to 10 lectures by ECRs who defended their PhD thesis after June 2019, with each lecture being of 30 minutes duration and an additional 10 minutes for questions. Our aspiration is to showcase the depth and diversity of the sol-gel research being undertaken by our ECRs in academia, industry and/or national laboratories, and to provide an opportunity for them to present their work to an international audience in a relaxed, online environment.
The ECR eMarathon will be held on Tuesday 10 December, commencing at 07h00 UTC and will conclude by 17h00 UTC (including breaks). The first presentations will be delivered by ECRs from Asia, followed by those in Europe and finally those in North and South America. As with all ISGS eSeminars, the lectures will be recorded and made available to ISGS members via the ISGS homepage.
We invite any ECRs working in the broad area of sol-gel science and technology who are interested in participating in the eMarathon to submit an abstract to the ISGS Newsletter Editor via email, together with a short statement outlining their motivation for participating in the event. The deadline for applications is Monday 4 November. Applicants will be advised of the outcome of their applications by Monday 11 November 2024.
We look forward to your participation in the inaugural ECR eMarathon and to your support of our ECRs, the future leaders of the sol-gel community of practice.
