Job Description

The proposed position is part of "Materials for energy" theme of PERSEE Center.
Within the frame of the collaborative NANOHYBRIDS project (H2020) coordinated by TUHH (Germany), some brand new adsorbents have to be developed for pollution control (VOC adsorption). For this purpose, some silica-based sol-gel matrices with high specific area will be synthesized. Specific grafting will be tested depending on the nature of the adsorbates. Cellulose-silica composite aerogels will also be considered.
Meanwhile, behavior of the matrix (thus grafted) with respect to water vapor will be considered and, if appropriate, alternative grafting process may be applied to protect the adsorbent.
In parallel, mechanical reinforcing paths to avoid the use of supercritical drying could be investigated for such adsorbents.
The candidate will be in charge of synthesis, grafting, drying and characterization of the different materials. He will collaborate directly with project consortium and the industrial partners to evaluate the efficiency rate of VOCs reduction. He will also collaborate with CEMEF (MINES ParisTech) concerning silica-cellulose composite aerogels.

The Centre for Processes, Renewable Energies and Energy Systems (PERSEE), a joint research center of MINES ParisTech and ARMINES, is one of the main research laboratories in France on new energy technologies and renewable energies. It counts approximately 40 people and about 40 Post Master students.
MINES ParisTech has train since its creation in 1783 engineers and scientists of very high level. Originally in charge of the training of civil engineers of Mines de Paris and of Corps techniques de l’Etat, Mines Paristech has developped since the sixty’s research and trainee activities (specialized master and Ph.D) linked with industry and international academic partners . MINES ParisTech is a founding member ParisTech, and member of PRES Paris Sciences et Lettres (PSL Research University).
ARMINES is the first contractual research association in France by volume of activity; it was created in 1967 by the Ecole des Mines de Paris. ARMINES leads industry “orientated” research.
MINES ParisTech and ARMINES have the Institut Carnot label since 2006.
